We visited Angus Steak House as a group of eight people during our trip to Auckland. We chose this restaurant because of its reputation and location, and while the food itself was generally acceptable, the overall experience was disappointing due to service and operational issues. First, the reservation process was confusing. Reservations are accepted only by email, which already requires some patience. We received a first confirmation email, clearly stating that our booking was confirmed. Later, a second email was sent asking us to reconfirm. Unfortunately, we were already traveling at the time and did not see this second message. When we arrived exactly at the reserved time, the owner immediately questioned why we had not responded to the second email. While we understand the need for confirmation, this situation felt unnecessary and avoidable, especially since we had already received an initial confirmation. We were told to wait about 10 minutes, which fortunately did not turn into a long delay — but the tone of the interaction was not welcoming. The restaurant itself was very busy and extremely noisy. It felt crowded and hectic, which may be normal for a popular steakhouse, but it added to the stress of the experience, especially for a large group trying to dine together. We were also informed that each person must order one main dish, no exceptions. While policies are policies, this was communicated in a very rigid way rather than politely. The biggest issue happened with food service. Initially, a T-bone steak and a sirloin steak were delivered to our table incorrectly. A staff member quickly returned to take them back, but by that time the sirloin steak had already been touched, while the T-bone had not. The staff member took both plates away anyway. About three minutes later, we were told that we could just eat the sirloin after all. Because of this mistake: One person’s meal arrived far earlier than the others The remaining seven main dishes arrived 15–20 minutes later This completely broke the flow of the meal and made it very uncomfortable to eat together as a group To make matters worse, the salads arrived very late, well after the mains, which again showed poor timing and coordination in the kitchen. As for the food itself: The quality was average to good, roughly 6 to 8 out of 10 The steaks were decent but not exceptional Nothing was bad, but nothing truly memorable either, especially considering the expectations and price In summary, the food is acceptable, but service, communication, and table coordination urgently need improvement. For a restaurant that positions itself as a well-known steakhouse, these operational mistakes should not happen — especially with a large group reservation. This place might work better for small tables that don’t mind noise and delays, but for group dining or travelers on a tight schedule, it was not an ideal experience. With better staff training and clearer reservation handling, this restaurant could be much better than what we experienced.

Coming from Texas, my family and I were looking to have a nice steak lunch and this place did not disappoint. My son (7yo) had the kids petite steak, wife had the steak sandwich, and I had the T-bone steak. Along with that we had the garlic loaf, salads, and seasonal vegetables. Steaks were all seasoned well and grilled to a perfect medium rare. Highly recommend getting the Cafe de Paris butter with the steak. Drinks came out quickly and the waitress was incredibly friendly. We’ll definitely come back next time we’re in Auckland.

You can tell when it is going to be a good meal when the restaurant is full on a Monday. I had the 500g scotch filet rare/medium rare. It was cooked perfectly and tasted even better than it looked.

Excellent service and the steak was fantastic. The ONLY complaints are the garlic loaf which is actually a 1/3 of a baguette at $10 (rip off) and the jacket potato which is about the size of a tennis ball at $9:50 (ridiculous)

I don't hand out bad reviews often but this place didn't come up to scratch for us. Firstly, we waited 70 minutes for our food. The table next to us ordered at the same time and received theirs 25 minutes before ours came out. Yes, the steaks are big but that doesn't mean they're great. I ordered MEDIUM and it was more like RARE (see pics). It was also quite tough to cut and chew. Finally, the fact that steaks do not come with any sides is a rort. $54 for a steak and then wanting to charge $12 for chips and another $7 for a "jus" (that was extremely watery and had no flavour) on top of that? No way - not on as far as I'm concerned. At least the service was friendly but definitely won't be back. There's better places for a steak in Auckland. (I also notice that the management don't seem to reply to reviews here, so that is disappointing and shows a lack of customer focus/care).
